Connoisseurs of crust, fans of the flakiest dough and supporters of stone-ground organic baking count on Breadworks Café for their morning croissant, their lunchtime Panini and a loaf of artisan bread to go. And it’s been that way since Breadworks first opened its doors on Valentine’s Day, 1995. North Boulder neighbors drop by to enjoy the scene from one of the outdoor tables or share a tabletop inside. “We have never lost our focus on providing quality baked goods at affordable prices,” says Larry Domnitz, who owns and operates the popular bakery with his wife Colleen, a classically trained executive chef whose resume includes a stint at Chez Panisse. “Colleen use to come in and buy bread from me,” Larry recalls. Destiny took its course, and since then the duo has grown the business to four times its original size, with a wood-burning pizza oven, daily specialty sandwiches, soups and salads.
