The Hydrant stands out with its canine and human customers for its excellent customer service, the smiling faces that greet the pooches and, points out manager Elisha Martinez, “everything is included at one price, with no add-ons. Other grooming shops may be cheaper, but we include with the haircut: bath, nail clipping and ear cleaning, and friendly dogs get to be cage-free. We give one of the best haircuts in town, and we’ve provided excellent, reliable service for 39 years, with the same owner, Joy Bishop.” The three groomers – Martinez, Valerie Brandner and Jenny Wehinger – deserve much of the credit for The Hydrant’s success. They have all been there for more than five years. “We’re hair stylists for dogs,” says Martinez. And if this isn’t enough, the pup who has everything might fancy Hydrant’s most popular service – the spa package, including a facial that repels and removes odors, aromatherapy, paw treatment and special cologne. Oh, for a dog’s life.
