The Academy has won the Boulder County Gold People’s Choice Award numerous times, and no wonder. “People recognize that we strive for excellence and that we have a special community,” says Karen McMurray, a managing director and co-owner of the Academy. “The Academy is a beautiful place, but it’s the people who live here and the people who work here who make it special. We have only 60 to 70 residents and 60 employees – we’re like a family. Everybody in collaboration makes it a special place.” The Academy’s mission statement tells it all: To be a community of excellence that fosters meaningful living in an intimate environment of grace and beauty. “We – all employees – always try to go the extra mile for everyone here,” McMurray says. “Because we’re small, everyone knows everyone. The staff gives so much. It’s the small size coupled with the dedication of staff to be excellent in all they do that make this a special place.”
