Reading connects us to vast worlds of thought and experience. Operating a successful bookstore is a lot about connections, too, says Boulder Book Store owner David Bolduc, who opened the store in 1973. “It’s a connection to the community on many levels. It’s about providing a personal experience that you will not find in many bookstores that seem to have no sense of location. When you walk in and see our best sellers, you’re looking at local or regional authors. There’s a conversation going on here, among neighbors.” Bolduc suggests that each one of us is a thread in the fabric of our community and its businesses. “We should support each other to keep the fabric together,” he says. Popular departments include a “green” section with topics on conservation, sustainable building and energy; Eastern religions (Buddhism, yoga, spirituality); and Local Authors. You can often find a gently used edition of many titles in stock, which makes your book-buying dollars go even further.
